How to Find and Repair Mobile Home Roof Leaks

There is nothing more annoying for any homeowner than a roof leak. It doesn’t matter whether you have a mobile home, a large mansion, or any other type of shelter, the moment your home starts to leak, that’s when you realize it's time to fix things.

The good news is that leaks do not just come from nowhere. They start small and if you can detect them fast, then with the best mobile home roof repair it will be very easy to avoid long-term damage.

Here are some of the tips you can follow to find and repair roof leaks in your mobile home.

Sagging, Peeling, or Dark Spots on the Ceiling

The best way to know if there is a leak in your mobile home is to inspect the ceiling very closely. If you notice that some dark spots are forming somewhere, it could be a sign of water damage or rotting. This means that the ceiling has come into contact with the water coming down from the roof.

Try to inspect the ceiling panels for any sign of peeling. Just like with dark spots, peeling is also caused by water damage or rotting so it could be a sign of potential water damage.

Finally, if your ceiling starts to sag, it could suggest that maybe it is slowly losing its structural integrity. Although this can be caused by several things, water damage tends to be the leading culprit.

Light Peeking Through

If you notice some rays of light or sun peeking through your mobile home rubber roof, then automatically there is a hole somewhere.

Now, most people will often be looking out for large light rays or sun rays. Well, if a hole in the roof is that big, then it should be obvious to find it.

But there are also smaller holes in the roof that will allow in a very small amount of light. Noticing these is not as straightforward as you think.

A good rule here would be to close the doors and curtains inside the house and turn off the light. This will then make it easier for you to spot any light rays coming in.

Water Stains on Walls

In most cases, you will notice that a majority of roof leaks tend to happen along the walls. As a result, water stains may develop along interior walls.

Unless the leak is huge, it’s unlikely that a big portion of the wall will be affected. In fact, most stains happen very close to the ceiling. In that case, pay attention to this.

If you don't act sooner, the damage may become too much to the point where you need a mobile home roof replacement, as well as water damage remediation.

What Are the Main Causes of Roof Leaks?

There is no doubt that the average roof on any home is designed to be strong and sturdy. Many mobile home roofers go out of their way to ensure that you get a roof that will easily protect you from any weather elements. But despite this, the roofs are not 100% fool proof.

Here are some of the things that would normally cause leaks:

Heavy Rain and Snow

Yes, the roof's primary purpose is to keep you safe from rain and snow. But it is not always a guarantee that it will do so without sustaining some damage of its own. That’s why it is very likely that you will have leaks after heavy storms.

Aging

It also comes a time when the roof becomes too old that you can’t rely on it anymore. Most roofs, depending on the material used to make them, can last somewhere between 10 and 50 years. However, the older the roof gets, the higher the risk for leakage.

Despite these things, the key is to catch the damages early. If you can do that, you will save a lot of money on mobile home roof repair costs.
