Summer is one of the most beautiful times of the year with the soothing sun and the cool rain. It’s just the perfect time to have some fun and enjoy everything nature has to offer.

Indoor Maintenance Tips

There are a few things you can do to prep your home for comfort during these hot days.

Here’s your summer checklist:

  1. Check out the cooling system and ensure it’s working as expected.

  2. Test out your smoke detectors. The heat of the season really dries up everything and there’s always a higher risk of fire.

  3. Check the ceiling fan and reverse its direction if you can. Inspect the blades while you are at it too just to be sure they are working correctly.

  4. While checking the smoke detectors, you may also want to inspect the carbon dioxide detectors and change batteries.

  5. Clean out the chimney as part of your house maintenance checklist. You know it’s been working all through winter and spring so this would be the best time to take care of it.

  6. This would also be the right time to install AC units on the windows. The summer heat can reach very high levels and you want your central cooling system to have some additional help in order to deliver that soothing cooling effect.

  7. Clean up the windows too. The last thing you want is for your newly installed window AC to spread dust all over the house. And make sure the windows can open and close easily, as you will need all the natural ventilation you can get.

  8. Ensure that the filters in your air conditioning system are replaced. The filters play a key role in purifying the air in your home and would be a great balance for the natural ventilation offered by the windows.

  9. It’s summer and there will be a lot of barbecues to come. Take the time to dust off the outdoor grill and clean it up.

  10. You also want a clutter-free home during the season. Clear out any unwanted debris and clutter. This is a key summer home maintenance checklist point.

  11. There’s nothing more fulfilling than spending the next few months soaking up the beautiful weather outdoors. For this reason, you may also want to fix up the deck.

Outdoor Maintenance Tips

Now that we have detailed a few things you can do as indoor summer home maintenance, let’s focus on the outdoors.

  1. Give your garden and yard some attention. Add a layer of mulch in there and devise a watering schedule to make all your plants pop under the summer sun.

  2. Ensure that all outdoor faucets are in good condition.

  3. You may also want to do some pest control as well.

  4. Clean off the gutters too for any debris, especially leaves.
