Getting the Right Tiling for Your House

You have a lot of options when it comes to tiling, be it for your home kitchen, bathroom, or even exterior patio. And depending on what statement you want to make with your tiles, there are many different visual aesthetics to go with. Would you like a bold statement like colorful Mosaic? Or something more down to earth and quiet, such as Terracotta? The choices are limitless and depend on your personal preference as the homeowner, but if you’d like some design help look no further than our tile comparison guide below!

Glazed Ceramic Tile

For the most wide array of options, sizes, colors, shapes, and designs available, you can’t beat glazed ceramic tiling. Currently the most popular material in American households, you can pick from an incredibly large amount of options. You bathroom or kitchen can go with whatever look fits you, ranging from porcelain, glass, crystal, or even quarry tiles. And seeing as the material has a lower water absorption rate, this makes it the ideal tile to pick for both bathroom and outdoor use. The only downside is that this economic material is occasionally difficult to cut to fit in siding, just based on the fact that many ceramic tiles are very small and therefore harder to make exact cuts in. Otherwise for the most possible choices available, go with glazed ceramic tile.

Mosaic Tile

Much like its counterpart glazed ceramic, mosaic tiling comes in a series of smaller, individual units generally made of glass, stone, or porcelain. The pieces usually come pre-arranged on a sheet that may or may not be followed in example. If you feel the need to switch up the method by which you place your mosaic tiling down then you are free to do so, most of the materials will look stunning no matter how they are laid down. You can make it like a puzzle, or design, an image, or whatever works for you and your home. And if the sheets aren't for you, it’s even possible to buy in bulk and arrange the materials yourself. For incredible customization, try going with mosaic tiling.

Natural Stone Tiles

Natural stone tiles usually come in squared off or rectangular pieces of granite or marble and can make a very bold statement in any home. While the material looks amazing and feels amazing, it does come with a few downsides. Firstly, this costly material can really increase in price for custom jobs or irregular cutting and fitting. Also, because the substance tends to become slick when wet it’s generally not advisable to use for bathrooms or near pool structures. But for a very fashionable, rarer option in tiling, go with natural stone.

Terracotta Tiles

You've seen this material on the roofs of California homes and in ornamental buildings. Terracotta is by far the most fiscally economic material on the list, and stylish, to boot. This reddish-brown slab blends in great in warmer climates, and comes in a series of different shapes and styles to accommodate every home, be it roofing or flooring. Having an earthly personality in tone and an incredible resilience to the elements, terracotta really is the underdog in terms of tiling materials. So for a unique tile that will really set your home apart, go with terracotta.
