Go elsewhere unless you want to pay cash, get no receipt (tax fraud much?) , have your cupboards rifled through, your walls damaged by their machines and your hardwood floor left with rough patches.

35 years in the business means that they know how to refinish wood floors. And for us, they did a pretty good job at that … but, and however, I cannot recommend that you hire GCM Custom Wood Floors for these reasons: Geoff Sr cannot be trusted. Period. Maybe he was looking for keys or wallets on our bedside table, I don’t know. I do know he didn’t find them. I also know that despite the fact that we hired them to refinish the wood floors, and only those floors, he entered the carpeted master bedroom which is not only no where near the work area, but the fact that it is off-limits should be a no-brainer. But back to our story: once in the bedroom, he went through drawers. We’d moved quite bit of our furniture into the bedroom to accommodate the refinishing job. This left a neo-horder’s maze through the room. Geoff Sr made his way to the far corner to a 3-drawer night stand where he left open a drawer and also dropped a cardboard roller onto the floor. Lucky for us, that nightstand stores only love notes sent between myself and my husband. Unlucky for Geoff, he apparently didn’t miss the roller. Nor did we, thus the following Larimer County Sheriff report # 14-6210. Back to the workmanship: there were ‘fix-it’ issues requiring a return visit. One floor board near an exterior door needed replaced, but instead of doing that they’d cut a 3 square inch bit of the board out and filled this rather large whole with wood putty … right before covering the filler with a couple of coats of refinisher. So of course, the filler didn’t dry and remained squishy. Also they left quarter-sized half-moons unfinished in every single corner. We asked and they agreed to fix these corner issues, however, by this time we knew about the snooping/probably foiled burglary, so that wasn’t a fun day at all. So here’s what I conclude: yep, they can refinish a floor, but unless you opt for water-based* finish and can watch their every move, you have far better, safer options. Oh, and if you hired Geoff Miller (who used to work for Schmidt in Loveland) and suffered privacy invasion or ID theft and thus have something to contribute to Larimer County Sheriff report number 14-6210, please do. It would be nice to shut this scumbag out of vulnerable people’s lives. * Whatever you do, please do NOT order oil-based finish. It is bad for the environment, true, and your health, absolutely, but here’s why you don’t want to hire this company for that: oil base finish requires that the owner leave the domicile. The incident outlined above occurred while one of us was in the house. You do NOT want to leave your home open to these people. (At this writing, Geoff is approaching retirement age, but please ask yourself what he has passed on to Jr. Be safe and hire another company.)
