We just had our house painted. When you look at the paint job, it does look great. There was attention to detail. You would think the “review” would be full of praise. Think again. We started in January 2021 when we got approval from our HOA to paint the house. We sought quotes and on February 15 we signed a contract with ProKote Painting LLC with a start date of Monday, March 29. Plenty of time for them to finish whatever jobs they were working and get a crew here. On Friday, March 26, my wife brought in the plants from the lanai into the garage. We removed [with approval] a Jasmin bush from the side of the house so it would not get on the way of the painters. Since they were going to paint the lanai floor, my wife power washed it in advance of the 29th of March. On March 27, I texted the owner asking him for a start time. No answer. March 29 was a no-show. After I sent a text on April 1, he called to tell me of supply problems because of the freeze in Texas. On April 6, he texted that they would power wash next day. After some additional prying, he set the time for the afternoon. On Wednesday, April 7, two men showed up to power wash the house. We had it washed last June, so it was in good shape. They took two hours and they were gone. They told us they would be back to start painting on Monday. Thursday morning, the owner texted that he had picked up the power wash equipment and he would stop later to pick up the payment due at start. I replied that it was due when they started painting and the crew would not be back till Monday. Sunday it rained. Monday I called to see what the schedule was and the owner indicated the house had to dry. On Tuesday, April 13, a Lone Painter, as I would call him, came in and taped the windows and exterior areas for painting. The owner sent his wife to pick up the payment due to the start. She indicated that there would be additional help in a couple of days. The Lone Painter finished the prep work and the owner delivered the house and trim paint. The Lone Painter started to paint on April 14. By Friday 16 April, he had done a lot of work, including painting the 12-ft high entry area from a 6-ft ladder, the highest he had. On Sunday the skies opened and we had a couple of inches of rain. Of course, no painting Monday. On Tuesday, the owner dropped off a tall extension ladder and had us select the color for the lanai floor stain. He dropped off that later that day. The Lone Painter was still alone. Monday April 26th the Lone Painter removed the furniture from the lanai and put it in the garage. According to him, the stain had to cure for 48 hours before it could be walked on. The Lone Painter sealed the curbing and the stone face of the house and painted the entire lanai, floor included. We had two days wait, at least. But he did not come back that week. On Saturday, May 1, my wife and I disassembled the swing set in the garage and moved the parts through the house. We moved the Adirondack chairs and garden table through the house too, using casters. The plants, half dead by then despite the garage and shop lights being on, came out of the garage back into the sun and fresh air. On Sunday, the owner texted to see if everything was OK and we gave him a list of small issues, all in the lanai area. The Lone Painter came back Monday afternoon to determine what needed to be done. On Tuesday, he came back in the morning, did what needed to be done, and left it to dry. He came back that afternoon to tidy up. That afternoon, the owner arranged to pick up the final payment the next day after 4 PM. His wife picked up the check and went to the Credit Union to cash it. It took 37 days to paint the house, from the contracted start date to the finish. It took 79 days from the contract to finished the work. It took 28 days from the actual start date to finish. On a 1-10 scale, I give The Lone Painter a 9 or 10. He deserves it. On a scale of 1-10, I give ProKote Painting a 3. It would not take too much convincing for me to give them a 2.
