I'd give this guy no stars if it was possible. He's a total con man, a CROOK! My wife called this guy to give us an estimate to replace the wood steps on our front porch. He came out, talked about how many years he's been in the business and how he's a one man operation since he can't find any good subs. He pulled all the steps off and showed us how things were rotting out from underneath. He asked my wife if she wanted to just replace the steps and at a later date replace stringers and posts. She told him she didn't see the point in that and that she didn't just want to slap a Band-Aid on it. His bid was $1,125 for materials, labor, and clean up - cash only. Oh yeah, and he said he'd paint everything white to match what was already there if we supplied the paint (my wife had just painted all of the railings in the spring) - no extra charge. Nice guy right? He asked for half down to buy materials and said it would take him a day. He showed up on the agreed day and made sure he called my wife out several times to show her how the original contractor cut corners. He bashed him pretty good she said and told her he'd never take advantage of someone like that. Middle of the day she had to leave to go to the store and pick up our kids at school. He said he'd just be finishing up when she got back. When she got home he was packing up as promised but said he had to talk to her about a couple of things. He showed her where he knocked some of the stone facing off the front of the porch and cut one of the steps wrong, but nailed it in place temporarily. He said the cedar tone lumber he was using was out of stock but he went ahead and special ordered another piece and would come back out and fix everything when it came in. He then said the bad news was he was going to California to work on his daughter's house and wouldn't be back for 5 weeks and by the way, wanted to be paid for the work he did that day. My wife paid him $600. I'm kicking myself that I wasn't there that day. I wouldn't have given him a dime. Long story short, every time we called after that, he had an excuse as to why he couldn't come out to finish the job...it was too cold, he was sick...He even had the nerve to tell us he came up with another bid to repair the stone THAT HE BROKE! I think he did it purposely. The kicker was when his nicely painted posts started to crack and we discovered he used caulk and paint to cover up the same rotting wood that was there originally. Needless to say that when we called him on it, he didn't return our calls...never heard from him. We found out that he attends church regularly with a neighbor of ours. WHAT A JOKE!!! We're taking him to court for "taking us to the cleaners." DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN!!!
